DAVID BOWIE, musically and of course visually probably the most versatile rock and pop musician of all time, returned to old virtues with this 1993 album after his excursion into brute rock ("Tin Machine" I & II): He got ex-chic man Nile Rodgers back on board as a producer - he had produced DAVID BOWIE's mega album "Let's Dance".
He played with his old Spiders From Mars buddy Mick Ronson for the first time in a good 20 years. He fabricated a lot of sophisticated soul, showed himself willing to experiment (among others in a jazz-infused track with his namesake from avant-garde jazz, Lester Bowie), and he once again covered songs that should sound like they were recorded in the 70's, among others a track by Morrissey originally produced by Ronson in Ziggy style or a number by the Walker Brothers, where DAVID BOWIE obviously outed himself as a fan of Scott Walker.
