In March 2020, right as the whole world was entering into a transitional phase, Evidence released a single titled "Unlearning". Now, a year later, Evidence launches the campaign for his upcoming album, Unlearning Vol. 1, picking up where the single of the same name left off, and going beyond. Throughout his career, Evidence has always been adept at both staying true to his roots and evolving as he grows and learns from life experiences, including recognizing when the time comes to unlearn. During the campaign for his last album, Weather or Not (2018), he expressed a desire to close the chapter on the weather-related theme that had been a staple of his solo career to that point. Unlearning Vol. 1 not only sees that vision come to life, but shines brilliantly in the process. Unlearning Vol. 1 pairs Evidence's own production with works from The Alchemist, Nottz, Sebb Bash, Animoss, Mr. Green, V Don, Daringer and Eardrum (QThree). Young Dudley and young Otis spent many hours trying to create a new sound for their city along with the Loot Pack and other CDP crew members such as the almighty Medaphoar, Ohno the Disrupt, Dj.Romes, Kazi, Roc C, The Grand Vanac, Unorthadox, Nicko anderson and Kali Wild they created a lane for the city of Oxnard to finally get the recognition it deserved! Comeback, Baby – DARKSIDE sind zurück! Die Band von Nicolás Jaar und Dave Harrington veröffentlicht am 23.07. ihr neues Album „Spiral“ auf Matador Records.

Fast acht Jahre sind vergangen, seit DARKSIDE ihr Debüt „Psychic“ 2013 veröffentlich haben. Pitchfork nannte es damals den Soundtrack zu einem David Lynch Science-Fiction-Film, den er nie gedreht hat. Jaar und Harrington gingen mit ihrem Band-Projekt später auf Tour, begeisterten vor ausverkauften Hallen und auf großen Festivals und gingen anschließend wieder getrennte Wege. Nicolás Jaar veröffentlichte seitdem 5 Alben unter seinem eigenen Namen, sowie zwei Club-Compilations unter dem „Against All Logic“-Label. Harrington gründete die Dave Harrington Group, brachte 2 Alben heraus, spielte über 300 Shows und arbeitete für andere Künstler als Produzent und Arrangeure.

Im Sommer 2018 mieteten sich Jaar und Harrington ein kleines Haus im indigenen Lenni-Lenape Territorium, welches im US-Bundestaat New Jersey liegt, um Ideen für Musik auszutauschen und um schließlich DARKSIDE wiederzubeleben. Es sollte weitere 1,5 Jahre dauern bis ihr neues Album „Spiral“ wirklich fertig geschrieben und aufgenommen war.

"From the beginning, DARKSIDE has been our jam band. Something we did on days off. When we reconvened, it was because we really couldn't wait to jam together again,” sagt Jaar über die Band. Dave Harrington kann da nicht widersprechen: “It felt like it was time again. We do things in this band that we would never do on our own. DARKSIDE is the third being in the room that just kind of occurs when we make music together."

Wie schön, dass die beiden zurück sind. Denn mit „Spiral“ beweisen sie einmal mehr, dass auch zwei Einzelkönner ein perfektes Team sein können. Nachdem die Band im Dezember 2020 mit „Liberty Bell“ bereits einen Song veröffentlich hat, erscheint nun mit „The Limit“ ein weiterer Track, der uns auf das kommende Album nur noch ungeduldiger warten lässt.

Stove God Cooks liefert eine brillante Mischung aus harten Raps, einnehmender Rhythmik und einem melodischer Tonfall. In den letzten Jahren hat Cook$ sein Handwerk perfektioniert, was nun in seinem Studio-Debütalbum gipfelt. Vollständig von Roc Marciano produziert, spielt "Reasonable Drought" geschickt auf den Titel des Debütalbums von Jay-Z, Reasonable Doubt, an, obwohl dort die Ähnlichkeit schon endet. Vor genau 20 Jahren, im Oktober 1998, ging ein Pott-Stern am Deutschraphimmel auf. Gemeinsam schufen Aphroe, Galla, Pahel und ihr DJ Mr. Wiz den „Soundtrack für gepflegte Melancholie mit genügend Gelegenheit zum Ausbrechen“, wie es sogar der Spiegel damals treffend formulierte. Mit „Unter Tage“ veröffentlichte die Ruhrpott AG, kurz RAG, nicht weniger als einen zeitlosen Klassiker der Deutschrap-Geschichte, dessen Songs wie „Kopfsteinpflaster“ oder „Westwind“ bis heute einen deutlichen Impact auf die Szene haben, denn Stars wie Marteria zählen die Bochumer zu ihren wichtigsten Einflüssen. The Cranberries - Dolores O'Riordan, Noel Hogan, Michael Hogan und Fergal Lawler - wurden in den 1990er Jahren in aller Stille zu einer der erfolgreichsten Bands der Welt. Mit O'Riordans bemerkenswerter Stimme und ihren unvergesslichen Melodien erreichte die Gruppe eine Reihe von Top-10-Alben und -Singles in Großbritannien und den USA. Dreams: The Collection umfasst 11 ihrer bekanntesten Titel, darunter ihre unvergesslichen Songs Linger und Zombie. Wer heute zum ersten Mal dieses Album hört, wird sich verwundert die Ohren reiben: Was soll an den 13 Tracks Ambient sein? Im Wesentlichen ist "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" ein freigeistiges, vielschichtiges, emotionales, atmosphärisch dichtes und vor allem mächtiges Techno-Album, das dezente IDM-, Electronica- und Beatz-Elemente enthält und an frühe Plastikman-Tracks erinnert. Ambient wird es nur unter den Maßstäben von Rave und Hardcore und damit den Sounds, die zwischen Sheffield, Leeds, London und Cornwall, von wo Richard D. James (Jahrgang 1972) alias AFX oder Aphex Twin stammte, die britische Jugend bewegten. Rückblickend markiert "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" nicht nur den Startschuss für James' Karriere, sondern auch einen "Wendepunkt der Ambientmusik" (allmusic.de). 2003 belegte "SAW 85-92" Platz 92 in der "NME's 100 Best Albums"-Liste. Auch im Buch "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" wird das Meisterwerk erwähnt. Wie das Original erscheint die Neuauflage von "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" als Doppel-LP bei Apollo, einem Sublabel von R&S Records. Die remasterte Nachpressung wurde auf Grundlage der originalen DAT-Tapes von Matt Colton angefertigt.
