It is rare to see Nassau, Covid and Grace Jones in the same sentence, but they were nevertheless part of the foundations for the creation of DJ Vadim's brand new album, Feel Up.

If someone had said in 2019 that one year later the world was literally going to shut down because of a pandemic, very few would have believed it (well, except those who have been waiting for the apocalypse since the year 2000). But the Covid has arrived, countries have closed their borders, clubs have closed and people have been confined to varying degrees.

As a very active international DJ, this was nothing short of armageddon for Vadim. The skies were darkened but rather than sink into inactivity and hibernation, DJ Vadim created his own tropical music festival within himself, an alternate universe that would share some sort of kinship with the recordings made at the Compass. Point Studios, orchestrated by Chris Blackwell for Grace Jones (1980-1982), James Brown, AC/DC, etc.

It was a melting pot of world-class musicians, mixing reggae, pop, soul and African rhythms and sounds… together creating one of the most influential albums of this period and it is in this spirit that was born the inspiration and the title of this new album by DJ Vadil, FEEL UP (literally 'Feel good'/'Have the strength, the courage').

Forty years after those sessions at Compass Point Studios, the same quest for discovery took place in Vadim's studio in Barcelona. The desire for growth, self-discovery and creating new sounds took hold.

The dubcatcher with its digital sounds of the 80s has been released and returned with a wide variety of musical tapas. The Alma Afrobeat band, the jazz quintet Abel Boquera Shu Shu and the jam group Empty pocket, Béla Ágoston and Márton Elő (Irie Maffia) have all participated in inspiring DJ Vadim for various musical elements that reign so much in the vibes the West African influences of 'Lift Off', the electronic hip-hop of 'Go Get It', the UK garage influences of 'Cheerleader', the Popcaan-inspired modern dancehall of 'More Than A Million' and the reggaeton explosions of Argento-Costa Rican Tikaf on “Grandma Wine”…

Inhale, exhale, Feel Up is the soundtrack you were missing without you knowing it!
