Gibbons ist ein Koloss der UK Retro-Soul/Funk-Szene, war jahrelang auf Freestyle Records gesignt und betreibt nun sein eigenes Label Bastion Music Group. Sein glorreiches Debüt 'Press On' wurde von iDJ als 'eines der wichtigsten Alben der modernen Funk-Ära' beschrieben und kürzlich vom Future Music Magazine als 'Klassiker' bezeichnet.
