Hailing from Scarborough, Korry Deez was a hip-hop constant in the vibrant days of the early 2000s Canadian scene. As part of rap trio IRS, Deez, along with Black Cat and T.R.A.C.K.S., dropped gems back in 2003 with the album Welcome to Planet IRS. Back then, the hip-hop scene in this country seemed limitless in the heights it could attain.
Not that he ever truly left, but Deez is back at it with Imago, a project that is unapologetic in its reverence for that classic rap sound, hitting all the requisite cosmic soul and West Coast funk notes along the way. At 10 tracks, Imago features head-nodders buttressed by the always-dextrous rhyme flow of Deez.
Sonically clever from a production and lyrical perspective, Imago is a welcome and pleasurable surprise from the hip-hop veteran.
