In 2014 Röyksopp released their fifth album "The Inevitable End", which at the time they called their last album, although they wanted to continue making music.
Well, to the delight of all fans of the Norwegian electronica duo consisting of Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland, "Profound Mysteries" is coming in 2022. However, we are talking about a conceptual audiovisual project accompanied by an album.
"Profound Mysteries" was announced on Jan. 1 with the short film/song "(Nothing But) Ashes...". A few days later came the next harbinger with "The Ladder," which was released along with a short film by Kasper Häggström. In February followed the song "Impossible", for which they collaborated with the British singer, songwriter, producer and namesake of the duo Goldfrapp, Alison Goldfrapp.
"It was great to work with the wonderful Svein and Torbjørn from Röyksopp. I've been a fan of their music for years and it was a fascinating pleasure to make 'Impossible' together. I really hope everyone likes the track, because there's more to come," Goldfrapp said in a statement.
Contemporary artist Jonathan Zawada of Australia created a visualizer for all three pieces.
Röyksopp on "Profound Mysteries": "What we as humans don't know far overshadows what we do know. As teenagers, we discussed our own fascination and preoccupation with the infinite and impossible - the deepest mysteries of life."
