Much has changed since Tame Impala first emerged with an EP of dusty home recordings in 2008. By and large Kevin Parker’s approach to recording has not, though the sound coming out of his home studio has vastly expanded, as has the number of people anticipating the fruits of his labour. Tame Impala’s third album is titled Currents, and on it Parker addresses a blindingly colourful panorama of transition in the most audacious, adventurous fashion he’s yet to capture on record.
Dense with heady lyrical introspection, musically the most playful, bold and varied Tame Impala record to date, Currents is Parker putting down his weapons and embracing change as the only constant - sonically, thematically, and personally.

Tame Impala – Currents
Als Fan der ersten beiden Alben war ich verwundert, als ich das erste Mal die neue Platte von Tame Impala aufgelegt habe, kaum Gitarre zu hören und auf einmal standen fast nur Synthies im Vordergrund, was mich auf den ersten Blick (als Fan der ersten beiden Alben) schon verschreckt hat. Aber nach mehrfachen Anhören offenbarte sich mir als eines der schönsten Kunstwerke die sich mir bisher je erschlossen haben, meine anfängliche Skepsis war verschwunden.
Diese Traumlandschaften die Parker wirklich in jedem der 13. Lieder serviert, sind einfach atemberaubend und wunderschön.
Kevin Parker hat selbst in einem Interview noch vor paar Monaten gebeichtet, dass er noch vor paar Jahren solche Musik als „zu kitschig“ empfunden hätte und selbst es nicht kommen sehen sich in ihr wieder zu finden.
Manchmal lohnt es sich halt (vor allem bei „Currents“) als Künstler und auch als Zuhörer über seinen Schatten zu springen und Neuland zu betreten.
Zum Vinyl: Sehr gute Pressung, toller Klang und kein Knistern. Überall im Netz liest man ja davon, dass die Vinylplatten von Tame Impala qualitativ unter aller Sau seien…
