2021 Remaster

7 years, not in Tibet, but in the waiting room of re-releases: "The Buddha Of Suburbia" has returned. We are talking about the DAVID BOWIE disc of the same name, which is now being reissued after about 7 years - and hopefully will finally receive the status that this work deserves. The story behind it is a bit complicated, though. Based on the semi-autobiographical bestseller of the same name by Indian-born UK author Hanif Kureishi, the BBC had produced a mini-series to which DAVID BOWIE contributed some passages for the soundtrack. More or less parallel to the TV broadcast, he released an album under the same title, which was then probably classified as a soundtrack due to the media campaign around the book and film, but this is absolutely wrong. In fact, the record contains only one number that was used in the film. Otherwise, it offers completely newly created and partly reworked songs and instrumentals, which are certainly inspired by the film and the theme of the book, but also by his memories of his own experiences in the 70s. For the artist himself, this album ("... and he's very proud of it") is in any case considered an official, regular studio work, his 19th at that time. To underline this visually, a completely new cover was developed. Unfortunately without Buddha smile.
