The Kooks – 10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark

Having just returned from an international stadium tour, the Brighton band once again stormed the UK Top 10 in 2018 with their previous album 'Let's Go Sunshine', only to find themselves back at the top of the billboards at major festivals across Europe. The recent streaming boom had brought the band even more (and many younger) fans, who were now eager to finally experience their unique indie rock sound live.

Although the record was ultimately to be created in these two locations, the Berlin connection is clearly felt throughout the course of '10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark'. And although they also flirt with completely different genres - synth pop from the eighties, funk, even prog elements appear - the bottom line is that the sixth album still sounds like a straight indie rock album. One with unmistakable Kooks signature.

In fact, they don't even try to reinvent the wheel with the new LP. Instead, they take the classic Kooks sound and give it a subtly retro-futuristic twist - both sonically, and simply felt: in the whole attitude in which these songs were created. It's an album that's mostly about hope: keeping that hope, seeing the good in the world, no matter how bleak it seems right now.

Above all, on the new album you hear a band that still has their career peak ahead of them. They are right to focus on confidence from now on, to trust that the future will be less gloomy.
