And from the opening snare crack of “Love Apple” the listener knows to get ready for a special hip hop excursion. Exquisite sounds abound, such as the exotic tones that reverberate throughout “Rotten Heart” and the echoey “Broken Lights.” Bittersweet chords and sentimental melodies play with the heartstrings on “Midnight Ocean,” and the mental thought-space gets expanded by “A Recipe for Lucid Dreaming.” There are 17 heady cuts in total and it’s deep stuff, all accompanied by phat, dusty boom-bap beats.
