Sankofa by Avr (Álvaro Silva), is a work that takes shape through the research and fusion of candombe and other Afro-Rioplatense rhythms with hip hop and black American music.

Avr, the great-grandson of Juan Julio Arrascaeta (one of the first Afro-descendant poets published in Latin America) writes throughout the album, using various "Africanisms" and lost words dating back to the colonial and slave era, giving the lyrics a connection to his great-grandfather's work and presenting himself as a skilled MC who travels through the past, present and future while using various Candombe rhythms in his flow.

Highlighted by several personalities in Afro-Uruguayan culture and throughout the Americas, it also presents itself as a valuable work for those interested in researching cultural figures from Black America, especially Uruguay.

Under the production of Felipe Fuentes, an album woven with tons of messages, some direct, others to be discovered, came to life. Sankofa means "look back, go forward" which is precisely, from the beginning, the essence of this musical journey, from a very heavy and dense ancestral presence of the drum, to complex harmonic compositions and arrangements, a work that counts with important contributions from some of the main Afro-Uruguayan artists.
