Fourth album of the Californian formation, "We Free Again" should enlarge without difficulty the circle of their fans: artistic continuity and more than ever careful production are there. For those who haven't yet had the chance to meet Groundation's outstanding musicians, these Americans have a taste for beautiful notes, meticulous arrangements, in short, real sound quality. Their recipe? Made in the old pots, it refers to a roots of the best effect, but also particularly inventive. Coming from reggae via jazz, the members of Groundation instill in their music a rare coherence in the composition of each track and the construction of the album. Unquestionably, "We Free Again" shows a real pleasure of musicians.

Behind the superb cover, 14 convincing tracks are hidden, where the dry and rough voice of Harrison Stafford finds a counterpoint in the sweet melodies of Apple Gabriel (ex Israel Vibration) and Don Carlos, guests on several tracks. The leader of the group has a fervor in the song that we find in the lyrics of chiseled Praising, Music is the most high or Feel Jah. More influenced by Groundation's jazz background than their previous efforts, "We Free Again" features unbridled solos and rhythmic variations. In this respect, the nyabinghi Dem Rise and even more the quadriptych Cultural Wars perfectly illustrate the work of the band: intelligence of the writing coupled with an acoustic care rarely pushed so far. It has been a long time since we heard such "intellectual", mature and completely assumed music. For all these reasons, Groundation's albums should be on the shelf of every reggae lover.
