Groundation is a band completely apart in reggae. The nine members of this combo have a core of hardcore fans who support them in everything they can do. Indeed, Groundation leaves no one indifferent, a good proof of their specificity. Their pure reggae, mixed with sumptuous jazzy colorings resulted in the creation of a unique and powerful sound that could be defined as "progressive reggae".
After many years spent scouring the American West Coast, the Groundation have crossed the Atlantic to establish themselves in the whole of Europe. It must be said that the group has many arguments: it remains one of the most effective scenic formations in the world.
Attending a Groundation concert is indeed an experience that you have to live at least once in your life. The atmosphere is relaxed and joyful, a mystical and natural vibe wafts through the air. The incantations of the burning rhythms seem to hypnotize the public, a real communion takes place between the musicians and the audience, as in the "grounations", these ancestral Rastas meetings where one sings and where one prays. Moreover, it is anything but a coincidence that the best Jamaican vocalists have accepted throughout its last years to come and participate in the work of the group.
Few contemporary artists can boast of having invited legends such as Pablo Moses, Cedric Myton of the Congos, Don Carlos, Apple Gabriel, Ras Michael or Ijahman Levi on their records. If the music of Groundation is a foundation, the texts of the pillar of the group, Harrison Stafford, arise there with force and conviction. The latter leads a real fight for humanity and his planet, positions that command respect. This revolutionary advocates a collective awareness of the present time, of the importance of the heritage left by the elders to develop by referring to positive influences. He draws his inspiration from daily reality, that of a world in difficulty, where building and growing is not at all easy. This is the common thread on all the albums released by the group.
Always faithful to the quality standards that characterize them, the Groundation have once again conquered Europe with "Building An Ark" their latest album. Harrison Stafford develops there the will to build an ark, to preserve a certain knowledge and to keep the positive in the music. This time no famous guest, just ten titles in long version which give pride of place to the characteristic voice of Harrison and his two female choristers, but also to the fabulous musicians of the formation who can demonstrate here all their know-how: a heavy, powerful and hypnotic jazzy reggae. The arrangements are notably sustained and the musical atmospheres perfectly mastered. The more time passes, the more the music of Groundation evolves: the compositions are more and more complex and the hovering and impressionist influences more and more marked.
