Hardly anyone is that much on the spot right now as MANIK is. Unsurprisingly as the New York-born DJ and pro- ducer stirred up the international house scene in the recent years with his dynamic and versatile style. Being part of Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings as well as his releases on Poker Flat and Hot Creations are proving that MANIK’s grooves not only lives off some catchy melodies – the American connects instrumental breaks from his hip-hop roots with jacking house and Detroit beat arrangements in such a nonchalant fashion.
With his „NY2LA EP“ he’s not only debuting on BPitch Control, but pointing out to his move to Los Angeles by sha- ring his analogue-driven booty shaking spirit with us. „Echo 3000“ is that typical synth-funk á la MANIK where the 4/4-beat is enlarged by bouncing bass lines, gritty kicks and hypnotic vocal samples. „Acid Sandwich“ is to betaken literally in the light of its dialogue between the pulsating 303 and some rough 909 claps. And his self-recorded vocals and the overall raw sound aesthetics is surely not only stirring up the blood of the blood of Green Velvet’s fans. While „Power“ starts with a more techno-driven vibe that subsequently evolves into a deep and pushing floor beast with its rave arpeggios, „House of Cards“ with some hefty chords is also reflecting that old-school charm of his entire EP. As a diverse producer, MANIK has simply leased the groove. His tracks are strongly tied to the glorious history of house and techno, yet they’re radiating a modern drive that shines on and beyond the dance floor. Keep your feet moving!
